The maritime sector was the typical exclusive property of men that women could not approach. It comes from the prejudice that women who are biologically weaker than men cannot endure rough waves.

Nevertheless, women built a life and culture at sea, and also they moved forward with their life without fear of the sea. The women living on the sea are brave and have developed their own lifestyles. Although the women in a traditional society just assisted men staying on the periphery of the sea, modern women have slowly broken a taboo barrier. And they are moving forward to the sea with men. Recently, the entry of women into the sea is prevalent in the maritime sector.

The main goal of this exhibition is to introduce women’s life who have spent their whole life with the sea and then to consider what ideal sea for modern women continuing to challenge. The exhibition including changes in marine cultural history will give an opportunity to take the first step to throw away all negative preconceptions about women and advance to a gender equality society.
