Ocean which covers about 71% of the surface of earth is very familiar to us, but still remained as mysterious abyss.

Long ago, ocean was the space of primitive life which makes birth the very first living organisms of the earth.

Ocean was the space of adventure where challengers went through with explorations at the risk of their lives at the Age of Exploration.

Recently it has been recognized as a repository of rich natural resources and great potentials.

Propelled by development of modern scientific technology and survey method, the attempt to know the true nature of the ocean is stepping up fast.

Maritime name offers epistemology with the importance for mankind who has kept land oriented world view for a long time.

It is not easy to name and draw boundary in the ocean which is full of continuous fluid organisms.

Name is led to have its own by sympathy and historicity through enough time and process, it does not remain unchanged forever.

Who does suggest names and how are they determined then? Based on these concepts, the exhibition [Oceans, Earn Names and Fame] was planned to introduce maritime names which is valuable products in maritime culture, show the efforts to list Korean geographical names and various aspects about maritime names.

We are aiming to deliver intensive temporality and spatiality which is reforming ceaselessly on the theme of maritime geography and name.
